Dieses Porträt ist ein Flügel eines zerlegten Triptychons, in dem Gemälde eines Mannes und einer Frau eine jetzt verlorene zentrale Tafel flankierten, vielleicht die Jungfrau und das Kind darstellen. Der junge, gut gekleidete Sitter scheint ein stilles Gebet zu bieten, da er die Perlen des Rosenkranzes in seiner linken Hand zählt. Der Ring des Mannes, der die Wappen von zwei aristokratischen niederländischen Familien trägt, deutet darauf hin, dass er aus den Niederlanden kam. Cranach hat dieses Porträt wahrscheinlich während seines Besuchs dort im Jahr 1508 gemalt.
