Graf Giacomo Durazzo, ein Genua-Diplom, kam 1749 in Wien an. Ernestine Aloisia Ungnad von Weissenwolff heiratete ihn im folgenden Jahr. Als Direktor der kaiserlichen Theater von 1754 bis 1764, Durazzo förderte Glucks Reform der italienischen Oper. Dieses Portrait stammt wahrscheinlich aus den frühen 1760er Jahren, kurz vor der Abfahrt von Durazzo nach Venedig. Martin van Meytens wurde in Stockholm geboren, wo sein Vater aus Holland ausgewandert war. 1717 zog er nach Paris und arbeitete dort als Porträtminiaturist. Er reiste weit in Deutschland, Italien und Österreich, bevor er 1731 die Position des offiziellen Malers am kaiserlichen Hof in Wien annahm.
