Proprio nel rovescio del mullion appare una figura in ginocchio, con la mano destra sul petto e tenendo una cartolina con la mano sinistra dove, secondo la tradizione, stava scrivendo “architetto”. Questa immagine rappresenta il Maestro Mateo stesso, che si pone guardando l'altare maggiore, offrendo la sua opera a Santiago. Tradizionalmente, le persone fedeli hanno colpito la testa della scultura tre volte in modo che il Maestro Mateo potesse trasferire loro una parte della sua saggezza, e per questo è conosciuto come Santo dos croques.
