Cette œuvre était l'une des trois œuvres du groupe exposé par l'artiste avant sa mort de maladie à 36 ans, juste après la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Matsumoto est connu comme un peintre qui a créé un lyrisme urbain calme, raffiné, et est également connu comme l'un des artistes anti-guerre de la Seconde Guerre mondiale qui s'est opposé au militarisme des années de guerre dans un essai intitulé
