Since Maurizio Galimberti discovered Polaroid in 1983 he has been exploring its creative potential to the full, becoming one of the leading experimenters with the instant film support. In his works the final image is composed through the juxtapositioning of individual shots on the basis of a recognisable modus operandi (Polaroid mosaic) through which he has portrayed ordinary people, cities and the world of show business. In his hands the Polaroid camera is a means of knowledge and discovery with which he enters into contact with the subject through continuous shots in what is almost a performance. Moreover, instant development permits the magical and material process of photography takes place: the image emerges slowly, taking form and coming to life through the support. Just as with his portraits of people, in the case of MAXXI too the overall image is composed of a mosaic of points of view for a facetted, changeable and shimmering portrait of Zaha Hadid’s imposing architecture.
