Il periodo più prolifico di Mei Qing come pittore era dal 1690 al 1695. Specializzato nel formato intimo dell'album, spesso tornò ad un insieme familiare di tipi compositivi che variava leggermente in ogni esecuzione. In questo album, Mei ha presentato le sue personali interpretazioni dei vecchi maestri, trattando i suoi modelli creativamente come punti di partenza per le sue composizioni altamente originali. Mei ha ulteriormente migliorato la varietà di immagini alternando grandi panorami con close-up intimi e utilizzando un sigillo diverso su tutte ma una foglia.
