Questo basso viola da gamba è uno degli otto tali strumenti prodotti da Michel Colichon a Parigi tra il 1683 e il 1693 attualmente conosciuto nel mondo. La schiena dello strumento, le costole e la scheda sonora sono probabilmente realizzate in un legno esotico che è difficile da identificare (cedrela?); un unico pezzo indietro, e una scheda sonora composta da cinque parti che sono state piegate e unite insieme. Il cofano è rivestito di legno di palissandro e intarsiato con motivi floreali in ottone. In un certo tempo non specificato, questa viola da gamba è stata convertita in un violoncello a 4 corde sostituendo la metà superiore del collo e l'intero pegbox con successiva restringimento del dito e del cofano, che ora ha solo quattro fori (invece di sei fori come originariamente). Tuttavia, l'intervento ha conservato la testa intagliata originale che lo inserisce nella pegbox corrente.
