Los símbolos del mal, el inkwell, el bolígrafo y el libro aparecen repetidamente en carteles socialistas durante la Guerra Civil como un homenaje a las dos bases fundadoras del PSOE, los intelectuales y los trabajadores, con el objetivo de cambiar España a través del trabajo y la educación. Otro elemento característico, repetido en muchos otros carteles, es el gigantismo expresivo en la representación del trabajador en este caso.
