Happy Arrival of French Duke of Anjou (1556-1584) in Antwerp, with the honorary gate on the St. Jansbrug, 19 February 1582. Oil painting of a colourful procession of riders and footmen passing by in front of the spectator to a gate of honor. The duke rides a fungus, wears a scarlet cloak and is sheltered by a worn canopy. On both sides of the procession are soldiers of civilian subjects in front of the public. A captain kneels before the Duke. Right next to a block of houses, the port of Antwerp is visible. On the right a set of burning barrels.
