Mori Yūsen est le fils de Mori Sosen (1747-1821), célèbre pour sa production prolifique de peintures de singes. Plus tard, Yūsen fut adopté par Mori Shūhō (1738–1823) et il vécut à Osaka. Comme le montre cette peinture, il était l'un des élèves de Sosen, qui a continué à se spécialiser dans les peintures de simiens.
