Mori Yūsen war der Sohn von Mori Sosen (1747–1821), berühmt für seine produktive Produktion von Affenmalereien. Später wurde Yūsen von Mori Shūhō (1738–1823) angenommen und lebte in Osaka. Wie dieses Gemälde demonstriert, war er einer von Sosens Schülern, die sich weiterhin auf Gemälde von Simians spezialisierten.
