Puppies ranlic en la nieve, su alegre exuberancia amplificada por el pincel animado del pintor sobre las colas curvas de los perros y la piel salvaje. Estas pinturas fueron creadas originalmente como cuatro paneles de puertas correderas, pero ahora están dispuestos a formar un par de pantallas de dos paneles. La pintura en el reverso de los paneles, que representan siete cachorros y bambú (incluido a un antiguo tema chino conocido como los Siete Sabios del Bamboo Grove), está en la colección del Museo de Brooklyn. Siguiendo el estilo de su primer maestro Maruyama Ōkyo, especialmente su representación naturalista de animales, aves y peces, Rosetsu estableció una reputación como pintor no entrenado e imaginativo.
