秘鲁国家图书馆新总部于2006年3月27日落成. 位于圣博尔贾区的土地由时任BNP董事胡安·梅希亚·巴卡于1991年出让;但各种困难阻碍了项目的发展. 第一阶段工程于1996年开工,虽然不久就停止了,后于2004年恢复. 该项目是通过竞争来选择的,由图书管理员和建筑师组成的陪审团. 所选设计由建筑师吉列尔莫·克洛(Guillermo Claux),奥古斯塔·埃斯特雷马多伊罗(Augusta Estremmadoyro),佛朗哥·维拉(Franco Vela)和沃尔特·莫拉莱斯(Walter Morales)编写. 随着新总部的落成,位于利马的Cercado历史图书馆成为了利马大公共图书馆.
