Las formas estadísticas y verticales de irises contra un puente angular que barre diagonalmente a través de ambas pantallas se refieren a un episodio en The Ise Stories (Ise monogatari). Exiled from Kyoto after an affair with a high-ranking court lady, the story’s protagonista stops at Yatsuhashi, a place where a stream branches into eight channels, each with its own bridge. La visión de los irises le lleva a componer un poema de amor nostálgico. La primera sílaba de cada línea forma la palabra japonesa para irises (kakitsubata).
