An einer Kreuzung begegnete Hercules Vize, der einen Weg der Leichtigkeit und des Vergnügens bot, und Virtue, die einen robusten Aufstieg anzeigte, der zu wahrem Glück führte – eine moralische Lektion, die durch das Motto auf der Entablatur oben links unterstrichen wurde: [HO]NOR ET VIRTUS/[P]OST MORTE FLORET (Honor und Virtue Flourish after Death). Die langen Talonen von Vize haben die Vorräte des Helden gereift. Ein gejagtes Messer lehnt sich an die Brust der Sphinx, die ihren Thron unterstützt.
