Esta es una de las tres vistas de Gardanne, una localidad montañosa cerca de Aix-en-Provence, donde Cézanne trabajó desde el verano de 1885 hasta la primavera de 1886. El campanario de la iglesia local corona el racimo de edificios rojo-roofed que anima el terreno inclinado. Frente y geométrico, las estructuras anticipan el Cubismo de principios del siglo XX.
