Un portrait de mari et de femme – moins la femme. Regardez attentivement, et vous remarquerez une touche de dentelle dans le coin inférieur droit de la peinture. C'est tout ce qui reste de la première épouse du Dr Gray Hassell, Eliza, décédée en 1926. Apparemment, sa deuxième femme, Brownie Goddard, a eu son prédécesseur littéralement coupé de l'image. Le Dr Hassell est né à Amaru et a suivi une formation de médecin en Écosse. Il a passé la majeure partie de sa carrière en charge de l'hôpital psychiatrique de Porirua.
