Peter Behrens, visionario y cofundador del Deutscher Werkbund (Asociación alemana de artesanos), creó este hervidor eléctrico para AEG (compañía eléctrica general) en 1909. El hervidor se caracteriza por su falta de ornamento y la sencillez de su forma. Sin embargo, el hervidor eléctrico no fue producido hasta 1922 por el Bing-Werke en Nürnberg, una subsidiaria de AEG.
