Questo bozzetto di olio è il disegno di Rubens per un ensemble di pala d'altare nella chiesa dei Carmelitani Calced ad Anversa, che fu eseguito nel 1637–38 dal pittore Gerard Seghers e dallo scultore Hans van Mildert. Il Cristo risorto trionfa sul peccato e sulla morte (il serpente e lo scheletro), ed è affiancato da sinistra a destra da Melchizedek, Elia, San Paolo e San Cirillo di Alessandria, che erano tutti associati all'Eucaristia. Nelle colonne e negli angoli superiori del pannello, Rubens offre al patrono una scelta di motivi architettonici.
