During the First World War propaganda was spread in the art of medals, as in other media. In order to maintain public optimism about the war and to quell outrage at the many victims and losses of the war, propaganda was used to move the focus on idealism, steadfastness and justice. This plaquette depicts an allegorical female figure sitting under an oak which symbolizes the strength, immortality and endurance. She stretched out her arms towards the busts of Belgian Queen Elizabeth and King Albert I in the clouds. In the background the landscape and the Brussels Courthouse is visible. The reverse shows olive branch, which symbolizes peace. Inscription around the branch bears: LES / COEURS / BELGES / VIBRENT / A / L
