Este acuerdo forma parte de la popular gama Morris & Co. ‘Sussex’ que también incluía sillones, sillas de esquina y sillas individuales (sin brazos). El rango fue fabricado y vendido desde 1869 hasta los años 20 y se inspiró en una silla georgiana tardía encontrada en Sussex. Las sillas fueron diseñadas probablemente por Philip Webb. Además de tener éxito comercial, la gama "Sussex" también fue utilizada por socios de Morris & Co. en sus propios hogares. William y Jane Morris usaron sillas "Sussex" en su primera casa familiar, Red House, y en su última casa de Londres, Kelmscott House en Hammersmith. Edward Burne-Jones también usó sillas "Sussex" en su estudio de jardín en The Grange, Fulham.
