La peinture de Bonnard de la routine quotidienne de bain, faite à partir de la mémoire, capture les détails de la lumière reflétée dans un miroir et des pantoufles pointues rouges. La femme est probablement Marthe (Maria Boursin; 1869–1942), que Bonnard rencontre en 1893 et se marie en 1925.
