Questa bara è decorata con sette placche, ognuna delle quali raffigura un episodio della Storia di Giuseppe del Libro della Genesi. A seguito del testo biblico cronologico, le scene sono dipinte dopo i tagli di legno di Bernard Salomon, pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1553 in Quadrins historiques de la Bible da Jean de Tournes e in varie biblie emesse successivamente dallo stesso editore. A causa della chiarezza delle illustrazioni di Salomon, la storia di Giuseppe divenne una fonte ricorrente di ispirazione per gli smaltatori di Limoges nella seconda metà del XVI secolo, tra cui Pierre Reymond, Jean de Court, Suzanne de Court, e Pierre Courteys, che firmarono questo cofanetto.
