Molto Jean Marc Nattier nella prossima generazione, Gobert divenne un ritrattista alla moda tra l'aristocrazia francese e la famiglia reale a corte, in parte prestando a tutti i suoi sitter una grazia uniforme che spesso rende una data identità difficile da differenziare. L'iscrizione indica che questa è Marie Adélaïde, la madre di Luigi XV, che sedeva per Gobert in diverse occasioni. Il bracciale gioiello e l'abito basso e trasparente segnalano un ritratto classico e allegorico che la eleva al regno degli dei piuttosto che rappresentare la moda contemporanea.
