Lazare-Nicholas-Marguerite Carnot (1753-1823), French statement and scientist, served as a deputy to the Legislative Assembly in 1791, as a member of the Convention in 1792, and as a minister of war from 1793 to 1795. He was a member of the Directory in 1795, and of the Tribunate from 1802-1807, governor of Antwerp in 1814, and minister of the interior under Napoleon. He authored
