Jean-Baptiste Kléber (1753-1800), französischer General, erhielt seine militärische Ausbildung in München. Als er seine Kommission in der österreichischen Armee zurücktritt, kehrte er nach Frankreich zurück und studierte Festungs- und Militärwissenschaften. Im Vendéan-Krieg wurde Kléber zum Division General gemacht. Unter Bonaparte befiehlte er seine Abteilung in Syrien und nahm 1799 El-Arish, Gaza, Jaffa und Mount Tabor. Kléber, mit nur zehntausend Männern, besiegte die türkische Armee von sechzigtausend in Heliopolis und ging weiter nach Kairo, wo er 1800 ermordet wurde.
