Jean-Baptiste Kléber (1753-1800), generale francese, ha ricevuto la sua educazione militare a Monaco di Baviera. Dimettendo la sua commissione nell'esercito austriaco, tornò in Francia e studiò fortificazione e scienza militare. Vincendo la distinzione nella guerra di Vendéan, Kléber fu fatto divisione generale. Sotto Bonaparte, comandò con sucessità la sua divisione in Siria, prendendo El-Arish, Gaza, Jaffa e Mount Tabor nel 1799. Kléber, con soli diecimila uomini, sconfisse l'esercito turco di sessantamila a Heliopolis e andò a prendere Cairo, dove fu assassinato nel 1800.
