Gasparo Luigi Pacifico Spontini (1779-1851), compositore italiano, si stabilì a Parigi dove fece la sua reputazione con opere eseguite al Théâtre-Italien e all'Opéra-Comique. L'imperatrice Josephine lo nominò il suo direttore musicale personale, e nel 1812, Federico Guglielmo III chiamò Spontini direttore della musica a Berlino, dove rimase fino al re.
