Gasparo Luigi Pacifico Spontini (1779-1851), compositeur italien, s'installe à Paris où il fait sa réputation avec des œuvres jouées au Théâtre-Italien et à l'Opéra-Comique. L'impératrice Josephine le nomma directeur personnel de la musique et, en 1812, Friedrich Wilhelm III nomma Spontini directeur de la musique à Berlin, où il resta jusqu'au roi.
