George Gordon Noel Byron, sesto barone Byron di Rochdate, (1788-1824) è stato un poeta inglese. Nel 1809 si sedette alla Camera dei Lord, ma partì poco dopo per visitare il Mediterraneo, dove raccolse materiale per la sua poesia più bella. Al suo ritorno in Inghilterra il suo brillante successo sociale è stato seriamente compromesso con voci di un collegamento con la sua sorellastra, Augusta Leigh. Entro un anno del suo matrimonio nel 1815 alla bella erede Annabelle Milbanke, la coppia si separa, Byron porta la colpa per l'unione senza successo. Ostracizzato, lasciò l'Inghilterra, mai per tornare, e si stabilì in Italia, dove incontrò Teresa, contessa Guiccioli, che influenzò notevolmente il suo lavoro successivo. Nel 1822, Bryon prese la causa della libertà greca, ma in mancanza di salute per un certo tempo e colpito dalla febbre, morì a Missolonghi nel 1824.
