George Gordon Noel Byron, el sexto barón Byron de Rochdate, (1788-1824) era un poeta inglés. Se sentó en la Casa de los Lores en 1809, pero se fue poco después para recorrer el Mediterráneo, donde reunió material para lo que sería su mejor poesía. A su regreso a Inglaterra su brillante éxito social se vio seriamente comprometido con rumores de un enlace con su hermana, Augusta Leigh. Dentro de un año de su matrimonio en 1815 a la hermosa heredera Annabelle Milbanke, la pareja se separó, Byron llevando la culpa de la unión fracasada. Ostracized, se fue de Inglaterra, nunca volvió, y se estableció en Italia, donde conoció a Teresa, Condesa Guiccioli, quien influyó mucho en su trabajo posterior. En 1822, Bryon tomó la causa de la libertad griega, pero al fracasar la salud durante algún tiempo y afligido con fiebre, murió en Missolonghi en 1824.
