Im Hof eines Landgasthauses scheinen ein modisch pensionierter Mann und seine Gastgeberin seine Rechnung zu widersprechen. Im Hintergrund setzen andere Gäste ihre Offenbarung fort, während ein Mann Schläge von Weizen liefert und eine Frau und Kind sehen auf. In niederländischen Szenen des Alltags vermitteln Themen des Kaufs und des Verkaufs zwischen Männern und Frauen oft Konnotationen von Flirt und Sex, wie es hier von den überlappenden Händen der zentralen Figuren vorgeschlagen werden kann.
