De Hooch war besonders an Innenszenen geschult, die den Lichtfall in Räume erfassen, die aus aufwendig ineinandergreifenden rechteckigen Formen aufgebaut sind. Diese Räume bieten den Hintergrund für einen Einblick in das Privatleben wohlhabender Familien. Hier sehen wir ein junges Paar, das einen intimen Moment in ihrem Schlafzimmer teilt; die Frau blickt in einen Spiegel an der Wand, während der Mann mit ihrem Hund spielt.
