Alla fine del 1740, il commercio con la Cina, che ha portato grandi quantità di porcellane in Europa, era in corso per secoli. Questo vaso e la sua coppia, 1915.8.42, raggiunsero la Francia poco dopo che furono fatti in Cina nella prima metà del XVIII secolo. Tali grandi porcellane monocroma erano particolarmente rare e costose, ma non dissetano la sete perpetua dell’élite francese di novità. Innovativi marciaands-merciers spesso hanno arricchito questi oggetti già lavish con elaborati supporti gilt-bronze. Qui sono caratterizzati da ricci, conchiglie marine, rami di corallo, rocce marine e perle, combinati con motivi di scorrimento astratti in scala irrazionale e design asimmetrico distintivo del Rococo, uno stile fantasioso che emerse a Parigi nel 1730 e rimase in moda fino al 1760.
