Painted for the Tempi family, it was bought by Ludwig I of Bavaria in 1829. The Madonna and Child (The Tempi Madonna) expresses the symbol of Motherhood. The painting is depicted by the Virgin who holds the Christ child tenderly. It was painted by Raphael for the Tempi Family and was believed that it was made in 1508 during the end of the painter’s Florentine period. It was later bought by Ludwig I of Bavaria in 1829. The painting is now housed in Alte Pinakothek in Munich. The portrait shows that the Virgin is looking at the child but the child’s attention is drawn elsewhere. The poses showed the intimate scene and the relationship between the figures. In this painting, Raphael seemed to free himself from his usual technique of painting. Thus, he applied colour rapidly on the veil.
