Questa è l'unica volta che Rembrandt dipinse un paesaggio tipicamente olandese. Un elemento sorprendente è il contrasto tra le nuvole scure e i raggi luminosi della luce del sole che brillano dal ponte e dagli alberi. Rembrandt ha sottolineato questo effetto dando le porzioni più scure della composizione solo uno strato sottile di vernice, mentre le sezioni più leggere sono spesso dipinte. Dalla collezione del Marchese di Lansdowne (Bowood). Acquistato nel 1900, con il supporto del Dr. A. Bredius e del Vereniging Rembrandt.
