Une peinture du maître néerlandais Rembrandt. Il est logé dans la Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister de Dresde, Allemagne. Il est signé "REMBRANDT F.". Il décrit deux personnes qui avaient été identifiées comme Rembrandt lui-même et sa femme Saskia. Dans le monde contemporain protestant, le thème du fils prodigue était un sujet fréquent pour les œuvres d'art en raison de son origine morale. Rembrandt lui-même peint un retour du Fils Prodigue en 1669. Le côté gauche de la toile a été coupé, peut-être par l'artiste lui-même, pour enlever les caractères secondaires et concentrer l'attention de l'observateur sur le thème principal.
