Der Niederländer Fürst Willem III. von Orange war mit Mary Stuart verheiratet, der ältesten Tochter des Königs James II. von England. 1689 wurden sie König und Königin von England gekrönt. Zehn Jahre später bildete Blommendael dieses Porträt des Königsstadiers. Willem III wird als mächtiger Monarch dargestellt, mit einem erminenen Mantel und der Kette des Ordens des Garter. Spätestens trägt er eine Allonge Perücke, die Blommendael durch Bohrungen im Marmor zum Leben gebracht hat.
