El garante holandés Príncipe Willem III de Orange estaba casado con Mary Stuart, la hija mayor del rey Jacobo II de Inglaterra. En 1689, fueron coronados rey y reina de Inglaterra. Diez años después, Blommendael esculpió este retrato del rey-stadista. Willem III es representado como un monarca poderoso, con un manto erminado y la cadena de la Orden del Garter. En la última moda, lleva una peluca de alonge, que Blommendael ha traído a la vida perforando agujeros en el mármol.
