Este sampler fue cosido por Rosena Disery (1805-1877) en 1820 cuando era estudiante en la Escuela Libre Africana de Nueva York. Aunque tanto las niñas como los niños asistieron a la Escuela Libre Africana desde su fundación en 1787, la instrucción de agujas no se añadió al plan de estudios hasta 1791.
