Samuel Hirszenberg è stato uno dei primi artisti a esporre la situazione dei suoi compagni ebrei in Polonia dominata dalla Russia nei primi anni del XX secolo. All'epoca esponeva The Black Banner nel Salon della Société des Artistes del 1906, fu fondato come partecipante frequente alle mostre a Parigi.
