Ein Freund von Eastman Johnsons, Rowse arbeitete in ähnlicher Weise wie der bekannteste Künstler und, wie Johnson, bevorzugt mit Kohle und Pastell anstatt Graphit zu zeichnen. Im Gegensatz zu Johnson war Rowse jedoch hauptsächlich ein Lithograph und ist nicht bekannt, seine Zeichnungen als Bilder für Gemälde verwendet zu haben.
