Sanos aktiver Workshop war die wichtigste Quelle in Siena für hingebungsvolle Bilder der Madonna und des Kindes, immer gezeigt Büste Länge, begleitet von Heiligen und Engeln. Die Heiligen auf der Basis (Predella) sind Mary Magdalen, Francis, Jerome und Margaret. Die Vorherrschaft der weiblichen Heiligen zusammen mit den Heiligen Franziskus und Jerome deutet darauf hin, dass die Arbeit für ein Weibchen bestimmt worden ist, das mit der Laienordnung der Jesuati, gegründet in Siena im Jahre 1360, oder ein Mitglied der Bruderschaft der Jungfrau, zu der Sano selbst gehörte.
