Una tenda decorativa e fogliame forniscono uno sfondo elegante per questa scena mitologica idilliaca, che viene presentata in una composizione semplice ma audace e dipinta con abilità senza sforzo. Il vecchio satiro barbuto, mezzo inginocchiato, sta osservando con cautela il ravishingly bello, recumbent nudo addormentato Venere, mentre il piccolo Cupido, appena più alto del suo arco e quiver, è ingombrante accanto a sua madre, con i suoi piedi nascosto sotto di lui. La postura sensuale, anzi voluttuosa di Venere, è ulteriormente migliorata da Ricci
