Même sans déchiffrer le contenu de cette missive informelle, nous pouvons nous engager dans le rythme abstrait de la calligraphie. C'est un brillant exemple de chirashi-gaki, ou d'écriture dispersée, dans lequel les colonnes de texte sont disposées hors de la séquence normale. Des lettres comme celle-ci pourraient être réutilisées pour être exposées dans l'alcôve tokonoma pour une collecte de thé. Le shôkadô Shōjō, un moine bouddhiste, a été salué comme l'un des grands calligraphes de son époque.
