1731 reiste der Hofmaler Shen Quan auf Antrag der japanischen Regierung nach Nagasaki. Während seiner fast zwei Jahre in Japan produzierten Shen und seine Studenten eine große Anzahl von Gemälden in diesem Stil – von kühnen Farbpinsel für Steine und Bäume gepaart mit sorgfältiger Farbanwendung für Vögel und Blumen –, die als dauerhafte Inspiration für japanische Künstler dienten. Dieses Beispiel kombiniert Kräne, Pfirsiche und Lingzhi Pilze, alle Symbole der Langlebigkeit oder Unsterblichkeit, zusammen mit Bambus und China Rose (yueji).
