漆を塗る媒体として使用することで、このアルバムで見られる強色効果が達成されます。 紙に漆を塗るのは、ゼシンが独自に開発した技法の1つです。 重厚な素材にもかかわらず、Zeshinは熟練した筆技と、インク塗装で様々なテクスチャーを作製可能にしました。 また、マザーオブパールインレイや粗面の制作など、ラッカー技術も使用しています。 明治時代までの漆は、黒、茶色、朱色、緑、黄色の約5色に限られ、漆塗りのカラーパレットを決めました。
