Pensare di avvicinarsi Gesù in uno stato indebolito dopo il suo digiuno di quaranta giorni e quaranta notti, il diavolo lo tenta in tre modi diversi, ciascuno rappresentato in questa miniatura. In primo piano, il diavolo suggerisce che Gesù cambi alcune rocce in pane in modo che possa mangiare dopo quaranta giorni senza cibo. Poi, nel giusto sfondo, il diavolo siede Cristo sul pinnacolo del tempio della città santa, dicendo che se è veramente il figlio di Dio, può dimostrarlo gettandosi giù, perché dovrebbe essere protetto dalla caduta da angeli. Infine, in mezzo a sinistra, il diavolo porta Cristo ad un'alta montagna da cui si vedono tutti i regni del mondo e gli offre queste terre se Cristo accetta di adorarlo. Gesù rifiuta freddamente tutte queste tentazioni e comanda al diavolo di andarsene.
