Luftperspektive, die kombinierte Wirkung von Licht und Atmosphäre, wird hier als Schleier der Haze gesehen, die Details in der Nähe des Horizonts erweicht. Ähnliche Gemälde von Denis älteren Zeitgenossen wurden in Paris immer beliebter, als Denis dort lebte, von 1775 bis zu seinem Umzug nach Rom um 1786.
