Una grúa se eleva a través del sol, y el siempreverde pino complementa la asociación de esta especie aviar con longevidad. La imagen simple y atrevida puede ser vista como una representación abreviada del Monte Hōrai, isla mítica de los inmortales, destinada a mostrarse al inicio del calendario lunar. Suzuki Kiitsu, alumno de Sakai Hōitsu (1761-1828), garantizó la continuidad del arte Rinpa en los tiempos modernos, animando un género que de otra manera podría haberse convertido excesivamente en fórmula y estática.
